Taking A Chance on Love

Right form the beginning of Taking a Chance On Love by Benny Goodman, it grabs your attention with a couple of strong notes from the instruments. I love the different brass instruments. They make the song more lively. It was a full on jazz band so it's loud and powerful. I also really enjoyed the woman singing. her voice was quite beautiful and very graceful. She goes from singing smooth notes to more crisp staccato notes. I like the variety in her voice. I enjoyed the jazz type beat. This beat feels like you could do a little swing to it. I think i would love to go some sort of restaurant and hear this song live. For some reason, these type of songs remind me of movies that are older or that are trying to imitate that retro vibe. Sometimes I wish I could go in a time machine to go relive when different types of music were just becoming popular, such as this song. The only thing i wouldn't want to witness is the racial injustice during that time. There were so many influential black artists that never received any credit during that time. This song was made by mostly white people, but the black community is thee only reason we have jazz and many more song genres.

  1. I liked how you brought up the racial injustice that was going on during that time. It is sad to hear about all of the artists with different talents and abilities that went unnoticed because of how they were treated back then. I am glad that it has changed and everyone can enjoy all types of music with the artists being acknowledged.

  2. I whole heartedly agree that I would like to go to a restaurant and hear this song playing live! I think this style of music is so cool and it brings so many good things with it! It definitely makes you want to get up and dance, and it is just a contagiously happy song! I also like that you pointed out the brass instruments at the beginning of the song! It really does make the song more lively!

  3. I agree that the brass instruments help to make the song more lively as well as what you said about the singer’s voice. I also could pair this song to an older movie and would love to hear it playing in a restaurant. I also agree that the racial injustice was a problem because the majority of my favorite old music was created by a race other than white people. I am glad to see that it is different today.
