Week 2

Now that I got introductions out of the way, let's get into my thoughts on some music. I picked Soldier's Joy by Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers. This song feels very nostalgic to me. Yes, this song is old, so it automatically has that feel, but it also reminds me of my Grandpa. My Grandpa likes the more southern type of song as well as a good fiddler. I think the violin with it's fast tempo makes this song tons of fun. I want to get up and dance some sort of swing. I am not quite sure what type of dance you would do to this song, but I know I would participate. I would have to say the violinists are my favorite part of the song. They are definitely the stars of the show. I was apart of an orchestra and I can always appreciate a good violin part. I would say the violin part isn't the most refined and clean sounding, but that's what gives the song more character. i also think this song portrays old cowboy music, which is a huge part of American history. Music plays a large role in history whether we realize it or not. It can also be a way to understand the history during thee time of when the song was made.

  1. Hey Kylee! I absolutely loved what you had to say about this song. I’m really close with my grandpa too, and we would always listen to the “Willie’s Roadhouse” station on the radio, which is a lot of old country music that sometimes sounds like this. I love that so much nostalgia can come through music. I definitely agree that music is also important in history and I think it’s cool that you can feel like you’re being taken back in time through listening to it.
